Millbrook Power Gas-Fired Power Station

by timhill on 5 June, 2014

I have met with representatives of the company promoting the Millbrook Power Gas-Fired Power Station to discuss the implications of their proposal on Stewartby and the surrounding area. There are still many issues to be addressed, including the possible impact of the construction and plans for developer funding of improvements to the local area. I will be pressing for improvements to the road surface in Green Lane and to the platforms at Stewartby Railway Station. These are the most likely improvements to be funded as they will directly benefit employees at the site.

I hope that many residents are able to attend at least one of the three exhibitions held by the company on 5th, 6th and 7th June 2014, and wll have any initial questions answered.

One of my main concerns is that residents need to be aware that this power station is much smaller than the one proposed by Covanta and occupies only a part of Rookery South pit. This therefore still leaves the opportunity for an additional much bigger facility to be built on the Rookery South pit area that already has planning permission for the Covanta Incinerator.

I am also deeply opposed to the fact that once again this proposal will not be decided by the local Planning Committee, but will go straight to the Secretary of State.

I will continue to monitor it and keep local residents updated as the consultation process gets underway, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have their say.

For further details of the whole project on-line, please look at http://www.millbrookpower.co.uk/.

If there are any other matters that are a cause of concern for you which you would like to bring to my attention, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.
